چکیده

1 Introduction Linear fractals can be generated using a variety of methods. This raises the question of finding equivalent methods for generating the same fractal. Several aspects of this question have been addressed in the literature. These include: A method for converting Koch constructions to equivalent iterated function systems (IFS's) [11], Methods for converting selected classes of L-systems with geometric interpretation to extensions of IFS's, such as controlled iterated function systems (CIFS's) [10] and mutually recursive function systems (MRFS's) [4]. Previous course notes [9] introduced the notion of language-restricted iterated function systems (LRIFS's) encompassing CIFS's and MRFS's, and included a number of sample LRIFS's equivalent to L-systems with turtle interpretation. The present notes include the following further extensions to these results: Introduction of the notions of iterated transformations of coordinate systems (ITCS's) and their language

Rotation number and its properties for iterated function and non-autonomous systems

The main purpose of this paper is to introduce the rotation number for non-autonomous and iterated function systems. First, we define iterated function systems and the lift of these types of systems on the unit circle. In the following, we define the rotation number and investigate the conditions of existence and uniqueness of this number for our systems. Then, the notions rotational entropy an...

Escape-time Visualization Method for Language-restricted Iterated Function Systems Escape-time Visualization Method for Language-restricted Iterated Function Systems

The escape-time method was introduced to generate images of Julia and Mandelbrot sets, then applied to visualize attractors of iterated function systems. This paper extends it further to language-restricted iterated function systems (LRIFS's). They generalize the original deeni-tion of IFS's by providing means for restricting the sequences of applicable transformations. The resulting at-tractor...

[inria-00510143, v1] Construction of fractals using formal languages and matrices of attractors

LRIFS's (Language-Restricted Iterated Function Systems) generalize the original de nition of IFS's (Iterated Function Systems) by providing tools for restricting the sequences of applicable transformations. In this paper, we study an approach of LRIFS's based on matrices and graph theory. This enables us to generate a matrix which elements are attractors.

Smooth Self-Similar Curves

I present a technique for constructing self-similar curves from smooth base curves. The technique is similar to that used in Iterated Function Systems like the Koch curve, except that it does not require a piecewise linear path in order to induce a set of similarities. I explain the mathematical machinery behind the technique, describe a practical numerical approximation that can be implemented...
